MGB History

Launched in 1963 the MGB could not have been more different from the previous models produced by MG at the time. The MGB was a new breed of motor car with its unitary construction, timeless styling and bullet-proof mechanics, the MGB would provide the basis of the MG range for the next two decades.

The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction, with a 0–60mph time of just over 11 seconds, aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was one of the MGB's strong points with the suspension giving a softer, smoother ride to the previous MGA, and with the larger engine gave a slightly higher top speed. The MGB was extremely well received by the press who were fulsome in their praise of the new car, which was capable of exceeding 100mph without any fuss. Performance, handling and economy were all of a high standard for the time, which resulted in a thoroughly reliable sports car that was a joy to drive.
